Peter Pan: The classic musical about the boy that never grew up. Working on this production was an honor and a privilege, as I got to work underneath Cathy Rigby and her company, McCoy Rigby Arts, for their three-week summer camp.
I helped as costume assistant to tailor, fit, and label Broadway costumes. I made and organized more than fifty Lost Boy costumes across two casts of young kids. I worked with Cathy Rigby to achieve the correct look for the costumes, as well as managed the costumes backstage in the absence of the costume designer, and helped with costume quick changes during the show.

To save costs, I devised a system where the Lost Boys shared costumes between the two casts.

Tea dying is a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to weather pieces of clothing. I cut up and stained white shirts, then attached fake leaves to them in bunches with hot glue. The shirts were already labeled with tape when I brought them home, so I made sure to safety pin fabric tags to them so I could match them up once they got out of the dryer.

Patches are an essential part of making any costume look ragged and torn. To do so I took pinking shears to scraps of fabric and hot glued them in place, then hand embroidered details on them. I supervised a team of parents to get through all of the pants.

I used brown paint on the pants to weather them, and incorporated accessories already acquired to add some individuality to the costumes.

Armed with my headlamp and thigh bag of emergency sewing supplies, this picture of Cathy and me was taken backstage after one of the shows.
